Krewella is an American electronic music duo, originally from Northbrook, Illinois, formed in 2007. The pair consists of sisters Jahan Yousaf and Yasmine Yousaf. They debuted on Monstercat with their song Killin' It, which was released on January 20, 2012.
The duo mainly specializes in dubstep, but also creates drum and bass and house-styled songs. A third member, Kristopher Trindl, was involved in their making of music before he resigned from his position in 2014.
Their song Killin' It was released via Monstercat on January 20, 2012, making it their first original song to be released through a label. Krewella broke into the scene in 2012 with their chart-topping self-released debut EP, Play Hard. They released their debut album, Get Wet, in 2013, containing their platinum-selling hit single “Alive.”
In 2017, Krewella launched Mixed Kids Records with their New World Pt. 1 EP. Their January 2020 album, zer0, is a sonic "ode to the blank slate," as Jahan and Yasmine put it, and was hailed by Billboard as a "transformative body of work." Their third album, The Body Never Lies, was released on March 4, 2022 on Mixed Kids Records, exploring topics of impermanence, the human experience, and their relationship to the world around them as half-Pakistani women in a male governed society.
They've played Coachella, Lollapalooza, EDC, Ultra, iHeartRadio Music Festival, Tomorrowland, Storm (China), Sunburn (India), Coke Studios in Pakistan, and more, in addition to their own headlining tours and Las Vegas residencies.
