An instrumental is a musical composition or recording without lyrics, or singing, although it might include some inarticulate vocal input; the music is primarily or exclusively produced by musical instruments.[1]

The color associated with Monstercat record labels with this subgenre is gray because it falls under the "Electronic" umbrella. For labeling purposes, Monstercat also includes these subgenres under the subgenre Instrumental:

  • Acapella: is specifically a group or solo singing without instrumental accompaniment.
  • Acoustic: music that solely or primarily uses non-electrical instruments.
  • Cinematic: original music written specifically to accompany a film or music album.
  • Classical: consist of the instruments found in an orchestra or in a concert band, together with several other solo instruments (such as the piano, harpsichord, and organ). The symphony orchestra includes members of the string, woodwind, brass, and percussion families of instruments.
  • Orchestral: is a large instrumental ensemble typical of classical music, which combines instruments from different families, including bowed string instruments such as the violin, viola, cello, and double bass, brass instruments such as the horn, trumpet, trombone and tuba, woodwinds such as the flute, oboe, clarinet and bassoon, and percussion instruments such as the timpani, bass drum, triangle, snare drum, cymbals, and mallet percussion instruments each grouped in sections.
  • Neo-Classical:
  • Neofolk: a form of experimental music blending elements of folk and industrial music, which emerged in punk rock circles in the 1980s. Neofolk may either be solely acoustic or combine acoustic folk instrumentation with various other sounds.
