The song's music video is now the most viewed upload on Monstercat's YouTube channel, having over 137 million views as of November 2017, surpassing classics such as Disconnected, Surface, and even Flight (formerly was Monstercat's most viewed song). The video was also the most liked video on any Monstercat's YouTube channels, until 2019 when Crab Rave surpassed it. The upload of the music video on Marshmello's personal YouTube channel is even more popular, with over 600 million views as of November 2017 and now reached more than 1 billion views near the end of 2018. Due to Marshmello's mainstream status, this song has introduced a fair amount of listeners around the world to Monstercat, a big help for the label.
In June 2016, it was announced that there would be a remix contest for Alone, and that the winner would have their remix released by Monstercat.
On July 8th, it was announced that future house duo MRVLZ had won the contest. The remix package, featuring Slushii, Getter, Streex, MRVLZ, Diskord, and LUCA LUSH, was released on August 25, 2016.

The song was premiered during Episode 105 of the Monstercat Podcast on May 10, 2016, and released the following Friday.
"Alone" was still relevant around the same time that Alan Walker released his single also called "Alone." Social media and Youtube exploded with videos and arguments seeing which was the "better Alone". This prolonged the life of Marshmello's "Alone" even longer.

Alone was certified Platinum in the United States in October 2017, and in Canada in April 2018.
